Is Florida a tropical climate, and does it get Hurricanes ?
Most of Florida has a tropical climate and has a defined rainy season from May through to October, when air mass thunderstorms with showers build up in the heat of the day and drop heavy but brief summer rainfall - but remember it will still be hot temperatures !! The official Hurricane Season for the Atlantic Basin - the Atlantic Ocean, the Carribean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico - is from 1 June to 30 November. The peak of the season is from mid-August to late October.
-
What wildlife, bugs and insects are there in Florida ?
As Florida has a tropical climate, Alligators are abundant - it is assumed that Alligators may occupy any open space body of water and can be seen basking on the banks of lakes. Snakes, Geckos, ants and other insects are also common. Expect to see them during your visit - they love the climate as much as we do, indeed it is their home. We have regular pest control maintenance carried out in and around our villa, and any excessive pest issues should be reported to our Management Company so they can be dealt with. During your stay with us, please keep windows and doors closed as much as possible (including the patio doors) to avoid little unwelcome pest visitors getting in.

When would we need Pool Heating ?
Pool Heating is recommended during the months of October to April as pools lose heat into the air it is harder to keep warm when the external (ambient) air temperature is lower. Electricity is very expensive in Florida and it costs a lot to heat all that water. As owners we also have to pay local taxes on pool heating (currently 12%) which is a direct cost to us. Our rates include things like pool maintenance, weekly pool cleaning and repairs. Our Pool Company have to attend the villa to switch pool heating on and off and there is a charge for this service, to ensure it is ready for guests arrival. In the hot Summer months, you won't need pool heating and will be thankful to step into a cool refreshing pool.
